Brief Summary
Jesus now sends the Twelve to exorcise, heal, and proclaim the reign of God, making a living off of the Gospel. Herod is perplexed by this, for he beheaded John but hears about more miracles and itinerant preachers. The Twelve return, and Jesus feeds the 5,000 men and their families. After this, Peter confesses Jesus to be “The Christ of God.” Jesus begins to speak of His Passion (suffering, death, and resurrection). He calls the disciples to take up their own crosses daily and follow Him. Jesus takes Peter, John, and James up a mountain for His Transfiguration. After coming down the mountain, Jesus exorcises a boy. Then He speaks the 2nd Passion Prediction. The disciples are petty. They argue about who is greatest, want Jesus to ban other exorcists from using His name, and are about to call down fire & brimstone on the Samaritans. But Jesus sets His face on Jerusalem (Lk 9.51), and warns about the cost of following Him there (Lk 9.57-62).
